PESHAWAR, Aug 27: The surveillance teams of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) detected 30 more cases of electricity theft in the Gulbela sub-division on Monday.

According to a press release of the company, two meters had been stopped, seals of 17 meters had been tampered with and four meters were using illegal electricity through the Neutral Cut system.

The consumers involved were served notices worth Rs197,000. The police department has been requested to register FIRs against five consumers.

Pesco had requested its consumers time and again to refrain from getting involved in wrongdoing and to stop power pilferage in the best interest of the nation. But the results were not very encouraging, compelling it to launch a campaign to curb “kunda culture”.

Due to power theft, the company suffered huge financial losses on the one hand and on the other the whole distribution system got overloaded due to which the public had to endure frequent power breakdowns.—APP
