KARACHI, April 27: Former Balochistan chief minister Sardar Akhter Mengal’s counsel has requested the superintendent of the Central Prison Karachi to allow the under-trial prisoner’s servant to deliver food to him personally.

Advocate Azizullah Shaikh said in an application that according to the UTP’s father, Sardar Ataullah Mengal, also a former chief minister, that “somebody left sumptuous but poisonous food prepared by a leading hotel for the UTP on April 25. It was only timely check that saved him. Accordingly, the UTP’s servant, Mohammad Umar, should be allowed to deliver food to him personally after testing by the jail authorities.”

Akhter Mengal is undergoing trial for kidnapping and torturing two army personnel. His servants and co-accused have already been convicted in the case.
