KARACHI, April 25: Charges were framed in a case of firing on police against Arshad Papu and his accomplices in the court of Senior Civil Judge, West, Farzana Mushtaq on Wednesday.

Arshad Papu, son of Haji Lal Mohammad, was heading one the two gangs operating in Lyari, police said. They said he was arrested last year. His brother Yasir Arfat and other accomplices Ghafar Dhobi, Bahadur, Sheraz, Irshad and Abid alias Dango are also facing the same charges.

Police said the accused were wanted to police in many other cases including murder, attempt to murder, dacoities, possession of unlicensed weapons and explosives.

The court asked the investigation officer to produce witnesses in the case on the next day of hearing, which was fixed for April 30.

Meanwhile, another court issued show cause notices to two police officials for their failure to produce an accused on the date of hearing.

The court of judicial magistrate East, Ganhwar Khan Gadehi, on Wednesday issued show cause notice to Sub-Inspector Younus and Assistant Sub-Inspector Amir Ali of Khokhrapar Police Station.

The court fixed April 28 for the next hearing and ordered production of the accused, Musa, who was arrested for keeping an unlicensed weapon, on the day.
