KARACHI: Aali recovering

Published April 24, 2007

KARACHI, April 23: Eminent poet Jameeluddin Aali suffered two fractures a day before the Aalmi Mushaira, and is expected to be discharged from hospital after three to four days, family members said on Monday.

Mr Aali is one of the few leading poets who did not show up to the Mushaira on Saturday night, and due to the organizers’ disinterest in informing audience about the actual reasons behind his absence, the media reported him as choosing to be absent.

“He would have loved to attend the Mushaira but could not, because he suffered two fractures in his hipbone on Friday when he fell from a staircase after attending a programme at the Defence Library,” Zulqarnain Jameel, Mr Aali’s son, told Dawn.

He said the poet was rushed to hospital where doctors placed a plate and two screws during a two-hour operation.
