KARACHI, April 23: Sindh Advisor for Home, Wasim Akhtar, has emphasised the need to raise the number of court police officers in order to provide speedy justice to prisoners.
He said this while chairing a meeting at his office, which was attended by IG Prisons Mohammed Yamin Khan, DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah and SP Headquarters, besides other senior officials.
The advisor said that presently there were only 331 court police officers, hence steps should be taken on a priority basis for the recruitment of 800 officers into the court police. The issue of the expansion of City Courts’ 100-year-old lockup was also raised.
The advisor stressed the need for the segregation of women and children from hardened prisoners during their court appearance.
He noted the need for smaller vans to transport women and children to courts and said efforts are being made to remedy this situation.—APP
