ISLAMABAD, April 18: A teenage boy has been kidnapped and his captors are demanding a ransom Rs2 million for his safe release, sources told Dawn, here on Wednesday.

Sources said Ghulam Abbas, a head constable in Gujranwala, filed a complaint with the Sihala police, stating that his son, Naeem Abbas, went missing on April 15 (Sunday).

Mr Abbas, his son, had informed the family that he would be returning to Gujranwala, from Islamabad but did not do so, the sources said.

They added that he had been working as a welder in Bahria Town but was unemployed since Feb 19. He was trying to find a job abroad and lived in the under-construction lodges at the Bahria Town.

Mr Abbas was last seen by Muddasir, his Bahria Town colleague, at the Soan bus stand when he was about to get on a bus.

The sources said that the accused, who kidnapped Mr Abbas, called his family through the victim’s mobile phone and demanded a ransom of Rs2 million for his safe release. However, he did not mention the location where he wanted the money delivered, they added. They said the caller did not speak Urdu very well and had a Punjabi accent.

The sources said the local police have sought the help of the ISI in tracing the accused through his mobile phone’s SIM (Subscriber Identification Module).
