KARACHI, April 16: Justice Mrs Qaiser Iqbal, Sindh High Court administrative judge for the Karachi division anti-terrorism courts, remanded a couple to police custody on Monday for allegedly kidnapping a doctor for ransom.

Accused Abrar and his co-accused wife, Huma, were produced before the judge by the investigation officer, who requested their physical remand for further investigation.

They are alleged to have kidnapped Dr Abdul Wahab from Nazimabad, Karachi, on April 12. A ransom of Rs 2 million is alleged to have been demanded from the doctor’s family.

An amount of one million rupees is said to have been agreed upon. Meanwhile, the police was informed and Abrar was arrested while receiving the amount on April 15. Dr Wahab was recovered from Liaquatabad on his pointation. Justice Qaiser Iqbal granted remand of the accused till April 19, when they would be produced before her again.
