KARACHI, April 16: Various labour organisations expressing concern over the ongoing judicial crisis and military operations in the country have vowed to work against the military government.

They pledged to extend full support to the lawyers’ and efforts of the civil society activists for the independence of judiciary and strengthening of democratic institutions in the country.

These decisions were taken at a meeting of different labour unions held at the office of National Trade Union Federation with Gul Rehman in the chair here on Monday. It was attended by representatives of Muttahida Labour Federation, Pakistan Trade Union Federation, All Pakistan Trade Union Federation and the National Trade Union Federation.

They condemned the action against labourers at Karachi Shipyard and asked for immediate acceptance of their demands. They also criticized the military operation in Balochistan, Waziristan Agency and other tribal areas.

Thy also discussed the possible alliance of five different trade unions. It was said that paper work in this regard would be completed by April 21.

They said May Day would be observed collectively and suggestions in this regard would be discussed in the next meeting to be held on April 21 at Mutahida Labour Federation.
