KARACHI: April 16: Three policemen were detained following an incident in which one of the two suspects they were escorting to a police station sustain bullet wounds early on Monday morning.

Police sources said that ASI Hasan Haider, head-constable Nawaz and constable Waryam were spotted a car carrying a tag, ‘AFR’ (applied for registration), affixed in the place of its number plate.

They stopped the car near Masjid-i-Khizra in Metroville-III and asked the occupants, Akhtar Ali and Yunus, to proceed to the Mobina Town police station. Nawaz sat in the car while Hasan and Waryam escorted the vehicle in their mobile van.

Before reaching the police station, Nawaz’s gun went off and a bullet pierced through the body of Akhtar, who was shifted to a hospital. Police sources said it was yet to establish whether the gun went off accidentally or the shot was fired deliberately. They said head-constable Nawaz and victim Akhtar lived in the same neighbourhood of Metroville III.
