KARACHI, April 14: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, Sindh, has decided to observe a token hunger strike on April 18, the next date of hearing of presidential reference against Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

A decision to this effect was made in a meeting of the alliance presided over by ARD Sindh president Zain Ansari, on Saturday.

It was decided that ARD leaders and workers would go on a token hunger strike from 11am to 3pm outside the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday to express solidarity with lawyers and for the independence of judiciary.

The meeting unanimously condemned the MQM for “a rally on government expenses”. The meeting observed that the MQM was spending government exchequer on its rally in the head of advertisement while resources of city government were also being used.
