KARACHI: Man killed as dacoits spray family with bullets

KARACHI, April 11: A young man was shot dead and his wife, father, brother and sister were wounded by a gang of dacoits in Al-Falah police limits. Police said five bandits barged into the house of Mohammed Rafique around 4am. They said the house owner and his wife, Hashmat Bibi, were offering prayers when they heard some noises. As the dacoits held the couple hostage at gunpoint, their son, Mohammed Idrees, 28, came down from his first-floor room. Other members of the family also gathered downstairs and the dacoits opened fire when Idrees struggled with one of the dacoits.

The police said Idrees received fatal bullet wounds and died instantly. His father, brother Ilyas, 32, wife Khizra, 22, and sister Sakina, 27, sustained bullet wounds. The dacoits took away jewellery.

Later, the dead and injured were shifted to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre. Hospital sources said Idrees and Ilyas received bullets in their chests and their father in abdomen. They said Khizra and Sakina also received bullet wounds.
