KARACHI, April 11: The Court of Additional District and Session Jude, South, Munawwar Sultana on Wednesday awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a woman, Khadija. Her husband, Mohammad Hanif, had filed a petition submitting that he had married Khadija in June 2003 and had two children. Khadija left him following some domestic disputes and got married with another person, also named Hanif.
The woman maintained that her first husband was a drug addict and was not ready to do some job. She said he had been forcing her into prostitution. Khadija stated: “I left his home under compulsion.”
The court, after hearing both the sides, found the woman guilty of illegal marriage and awarded her 10-year-RI, 30 lashes and a fine of Rs50,000. In case of default, she will have to undergo an additional three-month imprisonment.
A kidnapping case has been registered against Hanif (her second ‘husband’) who is at large.
BAIL: The Court of Additional District and Session Judge, West, Gulshan Ara Chandio granted bail to an activist of a banned organisation in a firing case.
The activist, Nasim Haider, was arrested in limits of Orangi Extension police on the charge of firing on a Rabiul Awwal procession in 2000. He is stated to be an activist of the banned Sipah-i-Sehaba Pakistan (SSP). Maqbool-ur-Rehman and Javaid Tanoli appeared as defence counsels in the case.
