KARACHI, April 10: A division bench comprising Justices Amir Hani Muslim and Mrs Yasmeen Abbasy adjourned the hearing of a petition by Al Akhtar Trust against sealing of its offices and other immovable property.
As the petition came up for hearing, Deputy Attorney-General Akhter Ali Mahmud pointed out that another petition challenging the freezing of the petitioner trust’s bank accounts was pending before another division bench.
He said the federal government comments were ready for submission but the bench observed that the two petitions should be heard together and he could file the comments on the next date of consolidated hearing to be fixed by the office.
MOSQUE SHIFTING: The bench also adjourned the hearing of a petition against the shifting of Qadri Masjid and the adjoining mazar and madressah in PIB Colony.
The petitioner trust’s counsel, Shaukat Ali Shaikh, submitted that the Lyari Expressway could be diverted to avoid the demolition of the mosque.
The CDGK counsel Manzoor Ahmed said the government had offered compensation for the land to be acquired by it for the expressway in addition to an alternative site for the mosque.
He said the diversion of the expressway had not been found feasible by the engineering consultants.
The project was of great public importance and the mosque could be shifted to another site to be provided by the respondent government. Further hearing was adjourned to April 20.
