KARACHI: Car-lifter held

KARACHI, April 6: The Anti-Dacoity and Robbery Cell (ADRC) arrested on Friday an alleged ringleader of a gang involved in smuggling of over 400 stolen vehicles from Karachi to Turbat, Balochistan.

Officials said Abdul Ghafoor alias Chaudhry had been involved in car lifting in the city for the past 18 years. They said the suspect had been charge-sheeted in over 60 car theft cases.

The officials said the Chaudhry’s gang comprised 10 to 15 members. They said the arrested ringleader had rented out two godowns at Manghopir Road and Metroville where his members used to park the stolen vehicles.

The officials said the gang used to change the engine and chassis numbers of the stolen vehicles at these godowns, and they later smuggled the vehicles by trucks to Turbat. — Staff Reporter
