Sri Lanka’s Nilanga wins 6th stage

MULTAN - Sudeera Nilanga of Sri Lanka won the sixth and the shortest stage of the 13th Tour de Pakistan International Cycle Race from Bahawalpur to Multan in a Race that was marred by heavy traffic as well as treacherous roads conditions throughout different points of the 88-km stretch.

Nilanga, who hails from the southwestern coastal Sri Lankan town of Moratuwa, launched his decisive attack around 20 kilometers from the finish, winning the 88-km stage in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 19 seconds.

Runner-up Mohammad Saleem of Pakistan Army rode well yet fell short of being victorious by mere five seconds. Dil Sher Ali of WAPDA, the runner-up of yesterday’s 4th stage from Rahim Yar Khan to Bahawalpur, clocked 2 hours, 24 minutes and 31 seconds to finish off in third place. The 7th stage of the race kicks off on Sunday where the cyclists will cover a distance of 154km to reach Sahiwal which is the next destination in the Punjab.—Agencies
