KARACHI, Dec 9: A number of candidates appearing in MBBS First Professional Part-A annual examination paper of Physiology of the Dow University of Health Sciences complained that the paper given to them on Saturday was not at par with the level of their education.
They claimed that the paper was not a surprise for the students who had crammed a Pre-Test Physiology book based on MCQs meant for a medical licence evaluation.
The paper benefited only those who were tipped that a majority of the questions were being put in the examination from the particular pool of questions, one complainant said.
Another student said the news spread two days before the paper and about 200 copies of the MCQ pool in question were sold in a single day at a shop near the Dow Medical College.
The questions were taken in ditto from the MLE book were far beyond the level of Part-A students and related largely to the clinical side, she added.
“The Physiology paper based on 50 MCQs had almost 40 questions literally word-by-word from the book in question. Moreover, the book didn’t have much to do with the standard physiology text being taught by professors at the university”, said some students.
They complained the scenario was very disheartening for hardworking medical students who attended college regularly and studied according to what was taught by the professors rather than literally cramming an irrelevant book at the last moment.
When this correspondent contacted, the examination controller of DUHS, Rashid Ali Khan, he said no candidate had complained to him or any other official during or after the examination.
“We have got a fool proof and computerised system of paper setting and there does not arise any question of leakage of the Physiology paper. We have a big bank of hundreds of questions and to say that paper was based largely on one particular book was incorrect.” Mr Khan emphasised the allegation was nothing but a trick played at the behest of the examination mafia.
