KARACHI: Release of relief fund ordered


KARACHI, Sept 3: Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed reviewed losses caused by the recent rains in Karachi and interior of the province besides the relief and rehabilitation measures taken so far.

Senior Member Board of Revenue Syed Anwar Haider briefed the meeting about measures taken to rehabilitate affectees. He also stressed upon the finance department to release funds for relief activities as soon as possible.

The minister for population welfare, Syed Ali Bux alias Pappu Shah, apprised about conditions in the interior Sindh and steps taken to rehabilitate the affected persons.

Separately, Communications minister Mohammed Shamim Siddiqi reviewed the losses caused by recent rains in Malir.

He requested the Sindh governor and chief minister to declare the area calamity hit so that people are provided due relief and assistance on an emergency basis.

The minister also requested for immediate setting up of a relief camp in Malir to redress public miseries and called for a survey of the area to assess the losses.

He apprehended the spread of diseases in the area and said the city and the Sindh governments be issued directives for setting up medical camps in various parts of Malir to provide required medical aid to people.

Shamim Sidiqi pointed out that 90 per cent population of Malir consists of urban and katchi abadis where water, electricity and sewerage systems were badly disturbed by rains and needs immediate rectification.—APP
