KARACHI: Women hold rally for Baloch people’s release

KARACHI, May 17: Baloch women staged a rally here on Wednesday in protest against the detention, after alleged kidnapping by agencies, of Baloch activists on terrorism-related charges.
Holding placards and banners in their hands, the protesters, including family members of the detained people, assembled outside the Karachi Press Club and raised slogans against the government. They condemned the ongoing military operation in Balochistan.
The rally was organised by Baloch Political Prisoners’ Release Committee, which unveiled a list of 200 people who, they said, had allegedly been kidnapped before being detained by government agencies. It deplored that none of them had, so far, been produced before any court of law.
The list contains the names of prominent figures of Marri and Bugti areas, including Haji Mir Mittha Khan, Wadera Asghar Khan, Misri Khan, Mazar Khan and Kamal Khan, besides activists Salim Baloch, Rauf Sasuli, Saeed Brohi, Munir Mengal, etc. Some other people enlisted appeared to be those who, according to the committee, had been arrested in Mekran and Karachi but their whereabouts had not been disclosed as yet.
A spokesman of the committee expressed concern over the continued violation of human rights in Balochistan, saying that through the military operation, the rulers were subjecting Baloch people to various forms of state terrorism.
He appealed to all human rights organisations to take a serious notice of the atrocities.
