KARACHI, May 16: The Karachi Port Trust has taken upon itself the social responsibility to cater to the healthcare needs of people belonging to Keamari and surrounding islands, other than KPT officials and staffers.

This was highlighted during the inauguration of a labour room at KPT Hospital, Keamari, on Tuesday.KPT Hospital Medical Superintendent said that the hospital was attempting to provide better health facilities not only to its staff and their families, but to the general public as well. It is with the very view that the new facility had been developed, he said mentioning that the two labour rooms at the multi-disciplinary hospital are equipped with modern facilities and latest technology for its patients.

According to him, the new facility has a modern ultrasound room, nursing counter, reception counter, waiting area for patients besides an officers’ family room. The entire area is centrally air-conditioned and holds provision for central oxygen supply to pre-labour ward and both the labour rooms. The main labour room is also provided with a Nitrous Oxide unit in order to carry out minor surgical procedures as well as caesarean sections.

The hospital has also acquired a state-of-the-art cardiotopographic machine for utero-fetal monitoring. Later, Begum Vice Admiral Ahmed Hayat, who was the chief guest, took around the hospital. She expressed her satisfaction that facilities were adequately staffed by qualified and well-trained professionals including lady doctors, midwives and nursing staff - available round-the-clock. —APP
