KARACHI, April 29: The Pasban-i-Aaza, an organisation of Millat Jafria, has accused the authorities of nabbing over 50 people since April 25 without any warrants and shifting them to unknown places.
Fearing threat to their life, the affected families led by PA coordinator S.M. Haider gave 48 hours ultimatum to the government for their release.
Addressing a press conference in presences of the affected families at Karachi Press Club on Saturday, Mr Haider said if the youths which included Nayyer Zaidi, Nasir Hussain, Ali Haider, Muhammad Ali, Hasan Raza and others were not released, the government would be responsible for the consequences. He said: “We are peace-loving people but it should not be taken as our weakness.”
In reply to a question, he said that they had approached to police officials and government officials to find out the whereabouts of the arrested people, but they expressed their helplessness as the matter pertained to federal agencies.
He said that they had also visited Nine-Zero, the headquarters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, but they also expressed helplessness in the matter. He expressed his apprehension that the authorities were attempting to involve Millat-i-Jafria in the Nishtar Park tragedy in a bid to trigger Shia–Sunni riots in the city.
Mr Haider said that if their youths were not freed they could resort to any mod of protest including self-immolation at vintage points without any announcement. He also appealed to Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Sindh High Court to take notice of the situation and ensure protection to the life and property Millat-i-Jafria.
