MIANWALI, April 27: The family of Faiz Muhammad, a tenant of Chak 2-ML was arrested and sent to central prison by police because his son had married a girl without the consent of her influential parents.

Reports said Muhammad Ramzan (21) son of Faiz Muhammad Baloch wanted to marry Tasleem Akhtar (22), daughter of Muhammad Yousaf Kohkar of the same village. Ramzan’s parents sent the marriage proposal to the girl’s family which was rejected by them. Finding no other way, the girl eloped with the youth, and the couple went to Ramzan’s relatives in Haroonabad where they solmnised their Nikah.

Meanwhile, the girl’s brother, Javaid Iqbal, got registered an FIR with Piplan police on March 13, stating that Ramzan, along with his father Faiz, mother Bashiran Bibi (50), brother Attaullah (28), sister Sakina Bibi (18) and brother Meherban (16) had kidnapped his sister, who had taken away Rs20,000 cash and gold ornaments worth Rs80,000.

The police arrested all the seven accused, including the couple nominated in the FIR and sent them to jail.

Tasleem, in her statement to the police said she was an adult and married with Ramzan on her free will.

The police were now trying to get the remand of the accused to recover the ‘stolen’ cash and ornaments from the couple.

In her written statement sent to the press through her lawyer, the imprisoned girl has reiterated her stance, and appealed President Gen Pervaiz Musharaf, Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, and women rights bodies to seek their help.
