KARACHI: Woman dies in road accident

KARACHI, April 23: A woman died while her husband was injured in a road accident in Shershah on Sunday. Police said that the couple was on their motorcycle when a speeding minibus of route (W-30) knocked them down. The couple were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the woman identified as Lal Jehan, 30, was pronounced dead. Her husband, Muhammad Azam, was provided treatment.

Police claimed to have arrested the minibus driver.

BODY FOUND: A bullet-riddled body of an unidentified woman was recovered in Surjani Town on Sunday morning.

Police said that the body was found from Sector 51-C near Taisar Town. The body was several days old and bore multiple bullet wounds. Police sent the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination.

SHOT DEAD: A cashier was shot dead on resistance during an armed robbery at Jehangir Road late Saturday night.

Police said that two armed suspects pulled up at a petrol pump at Jehangir Road. They demanded cash from the cashier at gunpoint. On resistance, they shot at him and took away the cash. The injured cashier, Shahzad Ali, was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died on Sunday morning.

MOSQUE DISPUTE: Tension griped Orangi Town when an under construction mosque was demolished allegedly by members of another school of taught.

According to the police, the administration of Ghausia mosque had reservations over the construction of another mosque at its adjoining plot in Orangi Town No 10. They had reportedly also approached the court in this matter, police added.

On Sunday evening, some 100 to 150 people came and razed the under construction mosque. Heavy contingent of police was deployed at the site to check any untoward incident.

Till filing of this report, no major incident of violence was reported.
