KARACHI: Privatisation of solid waste management termed a flop
KARACHI, April 23: The Municipal Workers Trade Unions Alliance on Sunday termed the privatisation of solid waste management in Karachi a flop show.
A meeting of the steering committee of alliance was held in the office of People’s United Workers Union at the KMC Workshop. Senior labour leaders Kaneez Fatima, Fareed Awan, Syed Zulfiqar Shah and others attended the meeting.
It was decided that sanitary and workshop staff would be given representation in the steering committee to further broaden the scope of anti-privatization campaign.
The meeting expressed deep concern over the shabby condition of cleanliness in all towns. Labour leaders said that contractors were working without any check and balance. They said that contractors were focusing on lifting mud and soil from the towns, while ignoring the trash so that to claim more charges from the towns.—PPI
