KARACHI, April 23: A delegation of world-renowned Qaris, led by head of Jamia Binoria SITE, Maulana Mufti Mohammed Naeem, met Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan at the Governor’s House on Saturday evening.
On the occasion a short Mehfil-i-Qirat was also held, in which noted Qaris recited the Holy Quran. The members of the delegation described their stay in Pakistan as pleasant. They appreciated the efforts of the governor and the Sindh government for the progress and prosperity of Sindh and prayed for their success.
Talking to the delegation, the governor underlined the imperative need for greater unity and cohesion of Muslim Ummah under the prevailing circumstances.
President Musharraf, he pointed out, was playing a significant role for the unity of the Ummah.
He referred to the efforts made for the reforms in the OIC and said that the president had put forth concrete proposals, implementation of which, would prove significantly successful for the unity of the Muslims.
Meanwhile, presiding over a meeting regarding youth affairs, Dr Ibad said that the Pakistani youth did not lag behind anyone else as far as talent was concerned.
However, there is a need to lead them to the right direction and fully benefiting from their capabilities, he added.
For this purpose he said, a coordinated programme be devised for their identification first at the inter-district and then at inter-provincial and finally at international levels.
The governor was informed that, for the first time, a youth directorate was being established in the province for augmenting youth affairs.
It was pointed out that the departments of education and social welfare, through mutual cooperation, would chalk out programmes up to the varsities’ level besides primary and secondary schools while the local governments would also play their due role in this regard.
He directed that monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and yearly programmes be framed for youth’s literary, social and cultural activities so that their creative capabilities and works could come before the people.
On the occasion, it was informed that a series of awards on literary creations in Urdu, Sindhi and English languages would be started. The meeting was attended by Sindh Minister for Youth Affairs Qamar Mansoor and others.—APP
