KARACHI: Signal-free roads soon: Kamal

KARACHI, April 22: Work on unique mega projects of their kind for the first time in Karachi has started whereby not only the city’s major thoroughfares would be made signal-free in the next few years, but also connected with Superhighway, National Highway and signal-free roads, leading to port and airport, which would add to the city’s beauty.

“Planning has been done in a very short time”, said Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal during a visit to Nazimabad, Liaquatabad and Gharibabad under-passes on Saturday. He was accompanied by representatives of a foreign investment company, DCO Fazlur Rehman and CDGK officials.

He said records have been set on account of initiating and completing mega projects in Karachi in a very short time.

He described the pace of work on under-construction under-passes at Ibn-i-Sina Road as satisfactory and hoped that these would be completed in four months and establish a new record in Pakistan with reference to development projects.

During the visit, Mustafa Kamal met the people at three sites of underpasses who informed him about problems arising after initiation these projects.

He pointed out that problems do erupt from beginning to completion of development schemes. However, efforts have been made to ensure that minimum people are affected and it was for this purpose that he is continuously visiting the projects.

The Nazim said work on underpasses was started simultaneously so that people may face problem only for four months. He said if these projects had been launched one after the other, the people would have remained disturbed for one and a half years.

He told the investors that fast completion of development schemes would greatly facilitate them.

He said that work on Hasann Square, National Stadium round- about, Karsaz-Sharea Faisal flyovers has started and after their completion the entire length of road from SITE to Sharea Faisal will become signal-free.

He said after construction of elevated expressway from Quaidabad to Jinnah Bridge, all roads from former district west and central areas to port, airport and steel mills would become signal-free.—APP
