KARACHI, April 22: The City Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, on Saturday said that presently women had a healthy representation in local bodies.
Talking to a delegation of under-training officers at her office, she said representation of women and their participation in every walk of life in the country was increasing.
“Under the present municipal setup, women have been given 33 per cent representation. A total of 830 women are present at the district and town levels while 712 are representing women at the UC level,” she said.
Explaining the local government setup, she said that for the first time in Pakistan the term of ‘stakeholders’ was used in Budget Role 2002, which included councillors, elected representatives, masses, women organizations, citizen community boards, district consultation committees and others. She said consultation with these organizations was necessary during the preparation of budget.
Sania Rifat, from the Audit and Accounts Service, Manzoor Hussain Memon from the Customs, Manzoorul Haq from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Muhammad Rizwan from Ordnance Factory (Wah Cantt) and others were part of delegation.—PPI
