KARACHI, April 17: A follow-up meeting regarding working of Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs) in Sindh was convened by monitoring judge Rehmat Hussain Jaffery and a number of decisions were taken.

The presiding judges of ATCs were directed to strictly follow the guidelines as laid down by Supreme Court in Shaikh Liaquat Hussain’s case.

Emphasis was laid on the disposal of cases within seven days and they were asked to comply with the directions in letter and spirit.

The presiding officers of ATCs were also directed to submit daily progress report of cases, for monitoring judge, Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery.

On pointation by the presiding officers that special prosecutors appointed by the government in a number of cases are not attending the courts regularly, which results in delay in the proceedings, the monitoring judge directed that the law secretary be informed about it to issue directives to such special prosecutors to be punctual and regular.

It was decided that directives would be issued to the home secretary for shifting of prisoners to jail where trials of their cases is being conducted.—APP
