KARACHI: Constitution of medical board ordered

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 5: The Sindh High Court asked the provincial health secretary on Wednesday to constitute another medical board to ascertain the disability of a candidate seeking admission to a disabled quota seat afresh.

Petitioner Abdullah Mehar submitted through Advocate Mohammad Nawaz Shaikh that he applied for one of the eight medical college seats reserved for the disabled. He was examined by a medical board and was verbally told that he would be admitted to the Sukkur college. However, his name was not included in the final list.

A rejoinder to the petition claimed that the petitioner was not found disabled by the medical board that examined him. But the alleged board report was written a copy of the petition and was meant only to frustrate the petition.

Allowing the petition, a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Mrs Qaiser Iqbal, asked the health secretary to reconstitute the board and have the candidate re-examined.
