KARACHI, March 31: Speakers at a reception on Friday stressed that the people of Palestine and Pakistan had great love for each other and always extended moral support to the other in their struggle.
The reception was organized for the Palestinian delegation, which had come to participate in the recently concluded World Social Forum.
The Palestinian team leader Jamal Juma, who is the chief of Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, said that Palestinians greatly valued the brotherly sentiments and moral support by Pakistanis.
He, however, said that Palestinians were disturbed when some time back there were reports that Pakistan was considering establishing relations with Israel. He said these were the tactics of the opponents who wanted to make the Palestinians feel isolated.
Jamal Juma said that Israeli forces were committing all kinds of atrocities against unarmed civilians, but it was more disturbing to know that some countries were considering to establish relations with Israel. He said that it was psychological warfare through which the opponents wanted to crush the will and confidence of Palestinians.
He said that people of all Islamic countries unlike their governments supported Palestinian cause. Saying that the governments might be having their own limitations or interests, he expressed hope that soon all the Islamic governments would be able to show and reflect the true feelings and sentiments of their masses regarding Palestinians.
Highlighting the importance of communications, he suggested that Islamic countries should have their own international news service so that they were not dependent on the news agencies of the western countries, which most of the time were biased while reporting news regarding Palestine, Kashmir and Iraq.
Human Rights Commission of Pakistan secretary general Iqbal Haider, Uzma Noorani of Women Action Forum, MPA Farheen Mughal and Anis Haroon of the Aurat Foundation also spoke.
