Karachi, Nov 3: Deployment of law enforcement agencies would be made on Eid day at all mosques, imambargahs and the places where Eid prayers are to be offered. “We will deploy 8,000 policemen to provide security to worshippers at all the locations where prayers would be held,” the acting city police chief Mushtaq Shah told Dawn here on Thursday evening.
He said that 700 recruits from training centres would also be called in to join the total strength of the police to be deployed at different locations in the metropolis.
The deployment would remain intact throughout the day and at Juma congregations at different mosques and imambargahs. Besides, the police would be deployed at all public places and recreational sites to provide security to those enjoying fun on the Eid days. The Rangers would also be deployed along with police, Mr Mushtaq added.
Meanwhile, IGP Sindh Asad Jahangir Khan has directed police officers to ensure effective security arrangements on the occasion of Eid. He has taken impressive steps around all mosques, Eid congregation places, Imambargahs, recreational and public places.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, he asked the acting city police chief Mushtaq Shah to ensure a thorough check through the Bomb Disposal Squad of all sensitive mosques, Imambargahs, Eid congregation places, and major parking lots.
Under a security plan, policemen patrolling in mobile vans and on motorcycles would keep a vigil on mosques and other religious places in their areas. In consultation with management of such places, including mosques, their volunteers should be deputed to check entry of suspected people in the premises.
He directed the police to take steps for snap checking under the supervision of senior police officers in the limits of each police station. However, he directed the police personnel not to create unnecessary harassment to peaceful citizens and avoid demanding unnecessary documents from people.
