KARACHI, Oct 3: Lyari General Hospital being a tertiary hospital will be uplifted in all respects and all-out efforts will be made to provide maximum facilities to the poor and needy patients.

This was stated by the newly appointed Medical Superintendent Dr Mukhtiar Ahmed Khwaja during a meeting with staff members. He lauded the efforts of the departmental heads in this regard.

All the clinical departments including general surgery, medicines, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ENT, paediatrics, gynaecology, psychiatry, anaesthesia departments presented the audit report for the month of August. The medical superintendent admitted that water shortage problem hit the hospital badly, saying that the chronic problem had remained unsolved despite constant efforts made in the past.

He recalled that earlier the hospital was provided with four to seven water tankers. However, he added, the situation deteriorated when supplies by the Rangers were stopped.

At present, he said, “We are getting only one”, which is insufficient to meet our water needs. He further questioned that how one could run a hospital without water.

He mentioned that 5,000 major surgeries were performed in the hospital every year and the number of OPD patients ranges between 1,200 and 1,500.
