KARACHI, April 28: A delegation of the Town Hall of Madrid (Spain) called on the adviser on Local Government and Special Development, Wasim Akhtar, here on Thursday and discussed with him matters pertaining to housing, sewerage, transport and water supply schemes in the city.
The delegation comprising Olivier Sterckx and Laila Khan, told the adviser that the Town Hall Council had selected Karachi for the implementation of various development schemes on a collaborative basis for the provision of basic amenities to the people and development of local bodies.
The delegation told him that for signing of a memorandum of understanding, a large size delegation would visit Karachi in September.
They also informed Wasim Akhtar of their desire that a few officials of the Sindh Government be sent to Madrid for training so that the projects of joint venture were implemented in an appropriate and effective manner and desired results achieved.
The adviser said that after threadbare discussion the delegation expressed the hope that Karachi would become a model city and termed the contents of the programmes as beneficial and implementable.
Wasim Akhtar termed the offer of the delegation as a gift for Karachi and assured of his all-out cooperation. — APP
