Accident claims seven lives

ISLAMABAD, April 23: As many as seven passengers, including a woman, were killed and 12 injured when a wagon overturned and crashed into a roadside tree here on Friday, police and hospital sources said. The wagon was going to Abbotabad from Rawalpindi. When it reached Ghangi Saydan, driver Shahzad Ahmed lost control over the wheel due to speeding and slippery road caused by drizzling. It overturned and crashed into the roadside tree.

The 19 passengers, including five women, suffered multiple injures and seven of them died on the spot.

The dead were identified as Shahzad Ahmed, Sajid Rehman, Umar Hayat, Allah Dita, Rana Ghulam Yasin, Irshad Mehmood and Nasreen. The bodies were taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi for autopsy.

The injured, sent to the DHQ Rawalpindi, were identified as Haroon, Mohammad Naeem, Nadeem, Nasir, Abdul Rasheed, Mohammad Saleem, Saadat, Sheraz, Sadaf, Amriaz Beajum, Kiran and Shahnaz.

Doctors said some passengers were in critical condition.
