KARACHI, April 11: Dr Naeem Khalid of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, has called upon the NGOs to revisit their original values. He was delivering a talk on “The development discipline landscape: A conceptual exploration through participation and development management,” here on Monday evening. The lecture was organised by the British Council in collaboration with the NGO Resource Centre and the British Alumni Association of Pakistan (BAAP).

“And in being true to their cause they (the NGOs) need to be able to resist the pressure for donors’ aid and in the process of that, begin to do some soul- searching in so far as learning to become learning organizations.” he remarked.

He further stated that the people desired that the NGO community should be accountable to the community members rather than to those who were actually providing funds.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director of the British Council Karachi, Charlie Walker, also pointed out that his organisation was sponsoring a project in Sindh aimed at creating awareness regarding the crimes connected with honour killing. — APP
