Revenue collection up 17pc in 5 months

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: The Central Board of Revenue collected Rs199.32 billion during the July-November period of the current fiscal year as against Rs169.8 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 17.4 per cent.

Official provisional figures released here on Tuesday showed that income tax collection increased by 17.9 per cent, sales tax 11.86 per cent, customs 31.1 per cent and central excise duty 16.7 per cent during the period under review over the same period last year.

On monthly basis, the revenue collection declined by 3.12 per cent to Rs32.7 billion in November 2004 against Rs33.755 billion during the same month last year. A CBR spokesman in a statement claims that the board expects collection will increase further when the revenue figures for November are finalized in the next few days.

Further break-up showed that the tax authorities collected Rs54.7 billion revenue under income tax during the July-November period against Rs46.4 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 17.9 per cent.

The revenue collection under the head of sales tax reached Rs86.3 billion against Rs77.146 billion collected during the same period last year, showing an increase of 11.86 per cent.

The collection under the head of central excise duty stood at Rs18.5 billion during the first five months this year against Rs15.875 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 16.6 per cent. The tax authorities collected Rs39.9 billion under the head of customs duty against Rs30.4 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 31.1 per cent.
