QUETTA: A coalition of Balochistan’s leading business, mining and transport bodies has warned of a province-wide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike unless the government addresses its demands, including compensation for losses suffered after dozens of trucks were set ablaze on highways across the province.
Speaking at a joint press conference on Monday, leaders of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), the Transport Association, the Coal Mines Association, Anjuman-i-Tajran, and the LPG Association strongly condemned the recent wave of lawlessness targeting freight vehicles on national highways.
QCCI President Muhammad Ayub Mariani and other representatives also condemned the recent acid attack on Dr Mahnoor, stating that the entire business community stands in solidarity with her.
They said the growing law and order situation in Balochistan has caused severe mental distress and financial uncertainty for traders, transporters, mine operators, and the general public. They added that challenges facing the mining sector and border trade are also worsening with each passing day.
The business leaders criticised the provincial government for failing to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of citizens.
