QSC accused of creating confusion

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 12: The Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (TMAP) has accused the chairman and the director general of the Quota Supervisory Council (QSC) of creating confusion among textile exporters by issuing contradictory and conflicting circulars.

In a statement signed by TMAP Chairman S.M.A. Rizvi and faxed to newspaper offices, the association has made a specific reference to a letter issued by the director general to the QSC chairman that hot categories 666-S, 666-P, 360, 361, 3387 and 347/8 must be monitored as the EPB is apprehensive of embargo on these categories. The copies of this letter were circulated in all the associations, causing dismay among the exporters.

Next day on November 8, the QSC chairman endorsed the suggestion of the director general. But much to the surprise and relief to the exporters, the director general withdrew the letter. But the QSC chairman reiterated the view that there was a danger of embargo.

On November 11, the exporters who were denied visas for categories 360 and 361 on verbal instructions of the QSC chairman and the EPB vice-chairman. Mr Rizvi complained that the EPB chairman was inaccessible to the exporters for any meeting or for a telephonic conversation.
