CED waiver on incoming calls extended

ISLAMABAD, Sept 4: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has extended central excise duty (CED) exemption on international incoming calls of private companies.

The decision was announced through CED notification issued here on Saturday.

The facility was earlier available only to PTCL international incoming calls. Although, the excise duty would remain chargeable on all type of international outgoing calls for all companies including PTCL.

The notification reads as "the following further amendment shall be made in its notification no SRO333 of 2002 dated

June 15, 2002 namely: in the aforesaid notification, in TABLE-II, in column (1) against the heading/sub-heading number "respective sub-heading of heading 98.12" in column (2), in clause (v), after the word "the" occurring for the first time, the words "Long Distance international licence holders including" shall be inserted".
