ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: Wah is to stage two events of next year’s 9th SAF Games, Lt. Gen Abdul Qayyum, chairman POF Board said on Monday.
“We have been allotted two events by the SAF Games organising committee one of which is wrestling while the second one could either be taekwondo, karate or kabaddi,” Qayyum said following a ceremony to honour the POF’s women athletes who won medals at last month’s National Athletics Championships in Rawalpindi.
Wah had earlier been given the right to host the wrestling competitions of the SAF Games which could not take place in March this year.
The Games which were later rescheduled for March 29 to April 7 will feature 15 disciplines that also include athletics, badminton, boxing, football, kabaddi, rifle shooting, rowing, squash, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and weightlifting.
Qayyum said that Wah had good sporting facilities and staging two disciplines of the SAF Games would see these venues being upgraded further.
Earlier Qayyum gave away cash prizes to athletes who earned POF eight gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals in the organisation’s maiden appearance in the National Championship.
