KARACHI, April 29: Police have arrested four alleged robbers and recovered unlicensed weapons and stolen property from their possession.

Those arrested have been identified as Sher Bahadur, Rashid, Wasi Haider and Maqsood Ahmed and they have confessed to have committed more than 12 robberies.

At a press conference at Defence police station, the Clifton town police chief, Munir Shaikh, said the alleged robbers also confessed to have committed a robbery at a shop in 21st Commercial Street, Phase-II Extension, on April 16, in which they shot dead a security guard after he offered resistance.

He said as the alleged robbers were fleeing in a stolen car, two policemen on a motorcycle fired at them, but the suspects sped away. Later, their car was found abandoned and the police found blood in it.

The police pursued the case, which indicated that a robber, Shahid Mehmood, had died.

One of their accomplices, Farhan, is still absconding and the police are conducting raids to arrest him.

Mr Shaikh has promoted the two officials who fired at the fleeing robbers in which one of them died and police found a clue to them.
