KARACHI: Navy chief stresses innovation by students


KARACHI, April 19: Creativity and innovation act as a catalyst and accelerate success in knowledge-oriented economy. It is imperative to revolutionize our education system with the corresponding changes in the field of science and technology to boost competitiveness.

This was stated by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, while speaking at the 15th convocation of Pakistan Navy Engineering College held at Bahria Auditorium here on Saturday.

He advised the students to promote active learning and collaborate with the market-based technological concepts to meet challenges of the 21st century. This, he stressed, was essential.

“There stands need to develop new ideas and curiosity among students for learning with involvement in real world projects and an increased collaboration with market and industry,” he added.

Admiral Karimullah urged the graduating students to put in relentless efforts whole-heartedly as per the nation’s expectations and contributing towards the maritime frontiers as well as broadening the base of national industry for economic revitalization.

He extended felicitations to graduates, specially those who demonstrated outstanding performance and secured medals.

Earlier, Lt-Gen Syed Shujaat Hussain, Rector of the National University of Sciences and Technology, declared conferred degrees of BE Mechanical, BE Electrical and BE Electronics on the successful students.

In his welcome address, Commodore Mohammad Saeed Qureshi, Commander of Pakistan Navy Engineering College addressed the convocation and said that the college was actively involved in research activity.

He shed light on various research and development projects successfully designed and developed by the students.

He pointed out that the college was the first ISO-certified educational institution which offered BE, MS and PhD degree courses in the disciplines of Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics engineering for service and civilian students.—PPI
