KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24: The Organization of the Islamic Conference is to meet informally on Wednesday, Pakistani official sources said here on Monday. President Musharraf is likely to extend his stay here by a few hours.

The meeting was confirmed after Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad met President Pervez Musharraf on Monday and requested him to attend it, even if it meant extending his stay at the Malaysian capital.

Originally, the president was scheduled to fly off to Pakistan early Tuesday morning.

The meeting will be informal, but it could make the March conference in Doha meaningful. Qatar, the current chairman of the Organization of Islamic Conference, has called an emergency meeting of the organization to discuss the Iraqi situation.
