KARACHI, Jan 27: The 21-km long interlink gas pipeline project would be completed and commissioned by the end of May 2003, says an announcement of the Sui Southern Gas Pipeline Limited (SSGCL) on Monday.

The Rs212 million pipeline will enable gas flows from right bank system to left bank system and vice versa and would connect the 20 inch Kadanwari Pipeline and 16 inch ILBP on left bank with 18 inch IRBP and 20 inch dia IRBPCEP on right bank.

The project does not involve any foreign funding and is being constructed in house by the SSGC. The gas company claims that it has saved a total of Rs50 million.

The total length of the pipeline to be used has been reclaimed from the redundant Pirkoh Sui system and the construction machinery and equipment deployed is also owned by SSGC and no new machinery is imported for this project.

On January 25, Managing Director, SSGC, Munawar B. Ahmed had carried out the ground breaking ceremony of the pipeline.
