ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The President on Monday amended the Islamabad Capital Territory LG Elections Ordinance, providing that only a graduate possessing a bachelor degree would be qualified to vie for the post of Nazim or Naib Nazim.

The Ordinance, though promulgated on October 2, has not been implemented in the capital even when the remote areas elected local government. The amended Ordinance says in section 15, clause (e) shall be substituted with the new clause, namely, “at least graduate possessing bachelor degree in any discipline or any degree recognized as equivalent under any law for the time being in force, for contesting election of Nazim or Naib Nazim.”
