CED exemption

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The government has notified conditions for availing exemption from additional levy of Rs5 per kg as Central Excise Duty (CED) on raw sugar at import stage.

According to a Central Board of Revenue (CBR) notification issued on Friday, the levy would not be applicable on raw sugar produced from cane or beet as intermediary product in the continuous process for the manufacture of refined sugar.

Similarly, duty will not be admissible to products known as gur, shakar, and khandsari produced by cottage industry.

These products were already exempted from the levy at local stage. The government has recently imposed Rs5 per kg as CED on raw sugar at import stage to restrict its import into the country.
