Afghans to buy sugar at $270 per ton

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, May 31: The Afghan sugar traders have agreed to buy the Pakistani refined sugar at $270 per ton.

A news release issued by the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) here on Friday said the Afghan traders, who have been here, had held separate meetings with sugar producers from Sindh and Punjab for importing sugar into Afghanistan.

The Afghan traders, the release said, are facing a lot of trouble because of lack of financial structure in their country due to which they are unable to open LCs for any trade deal.

The traders of the two countries, the release said, had decided to hold further meetings to finalize the modalities and financial arrangements.

The actual loading of sugar for Kabul from the mills and preparation of export documents is expected to begin in the next 24 hours, the release said.
