KARACHI, April 18: The provincial minister for health and population welfare, Ehsan Ahmed, on Thursday, visited different localities of the city to see for himself the on-going door-to- door anti-polio drive that has been extended for another three days on his orders.
The minister was accompanied by Executive District Officer (Health), Dr Nawaz Ali Shaikh, Dr Shaheed Isran, Dr Khalil Ansari and Dr Furqan Nabil.
During visit to the Sohrab Goth area, Ehsan Ahmed inquired from the medical teams about administering polio and Vitamin A drops to the children accompanying their parents in buses. He boarded a Hyderabad-bound bus and inquired from the kids and their parents about the administration of polio drops.
The passengers told the minister that as they arrived at the Sohrab Goth bus stop, the medical teams present there administered the drops to the children.
The minister also visited the Afghan refugee camps, Jhangabad, Qayoomabad, Ganna Mandi (Sugarcane Market) and other localities of the area along with Afghan refugee volunteers and inquired from the people by knocking on their doors.
The EDO Health informed the minister that in 18 towns of Karachi, about 2,706,679 children of up to five years of age will be administered polio and Vitamin A drops with the help of 4,855 teams.
In Gadap and Bin Qasim towns alone, 560 teams are active to administer drops to 218,038 children.—PPI
