CED rules

ISLAMABAD, March 19: The CBR is considering simplifying the central excise rules to facilitate the businessmen.

“We are seeking proposals from the field formations, ministries and trade bodies to formulate the simple procedures for central excise duty collection,” an official source told Dawn on Tuesday. The new procedures are likely to be announced in the budget of 2002-03.

The CBR in last year budget announced amendments in the CED rules through a proposed draft of ‘Central Excise Rules, 2001’, which was sent to field formations and all business chambers across the country for seeking their comments on it.

The official said: “We have not yet received sufficient input from the relevant stakeholders due to which it was not notified.”

Under the proposed draft all the irrelevant rules have been deleted.
