PESHAWAR, March 16: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Saturday announced that two more independent bodies on the pattern of Frontier Education Foundation would be established to ensure quality education at primary and middle, secondary and higher secondary, and degree levels.
Presiding over a meeting of FEF’s board of directors at the Governor’s House, he said that after the creation of the proposed bodies FEF would be able to concentrate only on one sphere of education. All the three bodies, he said, would have sufficient funds at their disposal to carry out their activities.
The governor said that problems in the education sector were enormous and they could not be tackled by the concerned department single-handedly, and added that keeping this in mind institutions like education foundations were being created to do the job judiciously.
He stressed the need for an effective check-and-balance system both in respect of resource utilization and performance of the foundation.
Meanwhile, the board of directors approved a proposal aimed at establishing six degree colleges for girls and a training academy for principals and teachers. The board decided not to allow financial grants to private educational institutions.
