LONDON, Feb 20: The British trade deficit swelled again in December to 3.18 bn pounds from a revised shortfall of 2.84 bn in November, official figures showed on Wednesday.
Analysts had been expecting a deficit of 3.1 bn pounds.
The Office for National Statistics also reported that the British public sector swung into surplus of 12.17 bn pounds in January from a revised deficit of 9.48 bn in December.
Analysts had been expecting a surplus of 15.0 bn pounds.
The government’s preferred measurement of the state of the public finances, public sector net borrowing, showed a surplus of 10.08 bn pounds in Jan from a revised 5.16bn in Dec.—AFP
